Road Trip....Ganghwa Island

After breaky on Sunday morning while the rest of the gang tried to rush us back to Seoul; Rachel Lynn, Yun Jeong and myself made a mad dash to the sea. Sung Ho had to be back at work by three and wanted to avoid traffic so we had only about 2o minutes to walk to the beach, see the beach and return from the beach. As we walked down a small road toward the beach we soon came across a jolly sign:

It warns of landmines that may be out in the mud flats. It's mostly there as a legal reason but it did keep us close to the shore. This island is famous for it's mud flats that empty out during the day and flood again at night. Many women make their living working these flats picking up the leftover food that has forgotten to retreat with the water.

The view to the south. On the land jutting out into the mud flats you can sort of make out a small guard station that housed an armed soldier. These posts can be seen in many places. Where I used to jog in the hills by my old place I would run past many of these sites but none had any soldiers in the them. The coastlines are different and this island is one of the larger ones closer to North Korea and seeing as Incheon Airport is on Ganghwa it's kind of an important island.

The view North. You can see another island in the far background. You have to take a ferry out to this one.

More scenery and despite the snow the temperature was actually warm around 5-10C.

Myself posing for Rachel Lynn. I'm sure the judge's of America's Next Top Model would have something to say about my body positioning.

Some rock on the beach that had a sign next to it. It's supposed to show the passage of time (or something like that).

Saejin yelling at us to hurry up back inside so we could go.

Sung Ho taking us back home by GPS. I love these things, they make driving like a video game. All in all a great road trip.
